For its second edition, the JJEM–Young Journalists in the Mediterranean - competition broadens its horizons and invites young video reporters living in Algeria, Egypt, France, Italy, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia to produce 6 to 10 minute videos documenting experiences in community resistance carried out through artistic practices and post them on the Web Arts Resistances platform (www.artsresistances.net).
Artistic practices, from street art to theater, music and dance, poetry and performance, photography and video, are often used to involve communities, to raise awareness and stimulate interest in local issues left out or forgotten by politics and traditional media.
A jury of journalists working for the 6 media partners of the Web Arts Resistances project - Babelmed, Inkyfada, Mashallah News, OnOrient, Radio M and Tabasco Vidéo - will select 4 winners, each of which will receive a prize of 1.000 euros for the production of their documentary.
In these times where mainstream media are saturated with images of shattered societies, some men and women have decided to fight against bitterness in the world by using their energy to find alternative ways to coexist. They often use artistic creativity to advocate basic human rights and strengthen social connections. These are the forms of community resistance that the JJEM – Young Journalists in the Mediterranean – competition wishes to promote.
The competition addresses young video reporters under 30 that have graduated, are studying or are self-taught in citizen journalism, and wish to tell, through images, a story of involvement and urban resistance through artistic practice in Algeria, Egypt, France, Italy, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia.
The competition wishes to encourage young video reporters to document in their own way artistic practices in urban spaces that involve the community, and forms of expression aimed at the regeneration and transformation of the civil societies in these countries.
Simply post your videos before May 10th on the Web Arts Resistances platform. The candidates will remain anonymous and their works will be evaluated by a jury. The list of winners will be published by May 15th.
The documentaries will be judged by a jury of journalists working for the 6 media partners of the Web Arts Resistances project. Each one of the four winners - to be considered ex-aequo – will receive a prize of 1.000 euros.
The winning documentaries will be published on the media partners' websites and shown in public meetings that will be announced on the WAR Web Arts Resistances platform.
The JJEM–Young Journalists in the Mediterranean–competition is supported by the Anna Lindg Foundation and the Fondation de France.
